It was a great privilege to be asked by Fiona Byford-Smith to speak at this years Industry Day at Chelmsford College.

The Industry Day gives the College students an excellent opportunity to meet people from local businesses, ask questions and glean knowledge that they could use should they eventually decide to start their own businesses.

We had a lot in common, as I’d left school at 16, but rather than going on to 6th form, I was offered an Apprenticeship in Print. This was my route into an industry that I love dearly to this day.

For my stint, I spoke to a class of Business Studies students, with the focus on how I started Premier Design, what the early years were like, and some of the methods that we employ to generate business.

I’m a great believer in keeping these things short and sweet, to allow for as many questions as possible, which there were at the end. Once someone asked one, the rest followed, which led to a very productive conversation.

I sincerely hope that the students benefitted from the time that myself and others from the local business community spent with them, and I’ve already volunteered my services for the event next year, if they’ll have me!!!
